Last week, the councilors of São José dos Campos, a city located in the interior of the state of São Paulo (SP), approved the creation of the municipal lottery in the 68th session.
Bill No. 615/2021, authored by councilor Júnior da Farmácia (MDB), in co-authorship with Marcão da Academia (PSD), provides for the creation of a public lottery service in the municipality, which will be able to explore any lottery modality provided for in the Federal Law 13,756/2018.
According to information from the City Council, the amount collected through the capture of bets or the sale of tickets, whether physical or virtual, will be used to pay the prizes.
In addition, the lottery service will also be responsible for:
- Tax payment,
- Costing expenses,
- Contribution to social security,
- Financing of actions and programs in the areas of social assistance,
- human rights,
- Sport,
- Culture,
- Health.
Municipal lottery project was filed in November 2021
The proposal is not new. The bill was filed with the Chamber in November 2021 and provides for the creation of a public lottery service in São José dos Campos.
According to the text, the city will be able to explore any lottery modality provided for in federal legislation.
In justifying the project, the councilors claimed that the municipal lottery will have “a direct impact on the lives of citizens of José José, with its resources reverted to specific programs aimed at social well-being”.
In this way, the measure will be forwarded to the mayor for sanction, who can authorize or veto the bill. It is worth noting that several cities are working on creating their own lotteries. For example, the capital of São Paulo also joined the idea and intends to launch its lottery game soon.
