Goiânia City Hall is committed to establishing a new public service: a municipal lottery. Since September 2023, this project has been in the plans and is now taking shape with the creation of a working group.
This group, made up of employees from the Finance and Administration Departments, has the mission of selecting a company to operate lottery games in the city.
The expectation is that the revenue generated by this new source of revenue will be used to subsidize public transport. Thus helping to balance public accounts and improve services for the population.
Although they have not set a date to launch the bidding notice, the initiative has already been formalized through a publication in the Municipality’s Official Gazette.
This document establishes “the municipal public lottery service”, allowing the capture of bets by physical or virtual means. This flexibility is essential to modernize and expand the reach of betting, making the service accessible to a wider audience.
Source of income from the municipal lottery
Municipal management identifies two main sources of revenue from the lottery. First, the concession of the service to the company that won the bid. Second, participation in profits from betting.
This strategy is considered an important step in diversifying the city hall’s sources of income. The plan to create a municipal lottery in Goiânia is promising. However, there are still several steps to be taken for its effective implementation.
The commission is in charge of preparing the bidding process, which must follow all legal standards to ensure transparency and competitiveness.
This includes defining clear criteria for choosing the company that will operate the service, ensuring that the concession brings real benefits to the city and its inhabitants.
In addition to Goiânia, several Brazilian cities are working on creating municipal lotteries. São Paulo is also committed to this mission, while the state government is advancing the process of launching a state lottery.
