In 2024, more than R$250 million in prizes from Mega-Sena and other lotteries were left aside by winners, according to Caixa Econômica Federal. Until July this year, the total unredeemed amount reached R$251,809,000.

Winners have up to 90 days to claim their prizes. If they do not do so, the amount is considered “abandoned” and is transferred to the Higher Education Student Financing Fund (Fies).

Caixa Econômica Federal has already held more than 100 draws in 2024. In February, the accumulated value reached R$152 million.

Thus, the “abandoned” values ​​per month in 2024 are:

  • January: R$33,351,000
  • February: R$27,203,000
  • March: R$27,496,000
  • April: R$59,699,000
  • May: R$38,858,000
  • June: R$33,999,000
  • July: R$31,203,000

Since 2015, the year with the highest amount abandoned was 2021, with a total of R$586,955,000. Between 2015 and 2023, the total transferred to Fies was almost R$3 trillion, according to data from Caixa.

How to recover your Mega-Sena prize?

You can collect prizes at any authorized lottery outlet or directly at Caixa Econômica Federal branches. However, for gross premiums exceeding R$2,259.20, payment must be made exclusively at Caixa branches.

It is necessary to present an identity document with CPF and the original, winning bet receipt. Prizes exceeding R$10,000 have a minimum period of two business days to be delivered, after the winner presents himself at a Caixa branch.

Next draw

Caixa Econômica Federal will hold the draw for Mega-Sena contest 2,768 this Thursday (29), at 8pm, in São Paulo. The prize can reach R$6.5 million for anyone who gets all six numbers right. That’s because in last Tuesday’s contest (27), no one won the top prize.

Bets for Mega-Sena have a minimum cost of R$5 and can be placed until 7pm on Thursday (29). You can bet at any lottery in the country or online, on the Caixa Econômica Federal website. Thus, the website is accessible via cell phone, computer or other devices.

Currently, Mega-Sena holds draws three times a week: on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. To participate, you must be over 18 years old, register and fill in your credit card number.
