Lotesul- Government of Mato Grosso do Sul works to relaunch state lottery

The Constitution, Justice and Writing Commission (CCJR) granted a favorable opinion for the bill to relaunch the State Lottery of Mato Grosso do Sul, Lotesul. The extraordinary session took place last Thursday, at the Legislative Assembly.

Lotesul’s project was unanimously approved and should be sent to the plenary in the second legislative semester. According to Correio do Povo, the text referring to the state lottery was sent to Casa this week and guided by the president, Paulo Côrrea (PSDB), at the meeting last Tuesday.

The second proposal approved at the Thursday session called for the inclusion of religious leaders in priority groups for vaccination against COVID-19.

About Lotesul

The idea of the government of Mato Grosso do Sul is to resume the lottery operation after 15 years. Unlike what happened before, when Lotesul was also responsible for managing and controlling the betting and game categories existing in the state, now this competence will be with the State Department of Finance (Sefaz).

According to the proposal approved by the CCRJ, the operation of the lottery service will be restricted to the territory of Mato Grosso do Sul and it will not be possible to provide modalities of lottery games other than those available in federal legislation.

Interested parties may place their bets, in accordance with current legislation, on physical or digital channels. Although limited to the state territory, Lotesul has the possibility of placing virtual bets in other places in Brazil. This is because the bill only stipulates that the betting seller must be over 18 years of age and have proven residency in the state.

The intention of Governor Reinaldo Azambuja is that the resources obtained from the lottery bets are destined to the area of social security and help in the cost of housing, sports, education and social development projects. Winning bet amounts not claimed within the legal deadline will have the same fate.
