The Ministry of Sports (MESP) published this Monday (06), in the Official Gazette of the Union, Ordinance No. 32, which defines the 80 professional football associations that will be part of Timemania for the 2026 to 2028 cycle.
The update of the lottery catalog reflects the changes in the divisions of the Brazilian Championship and in the ranking of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), thus maintaining the sport as an essential source of funding for the reduction of tax debts of Brazilian clubs.
How the government structured the distribution of vacancies for the coming years
In order to compose the betting pools for the sport, the federal government maintained the technical criteria based on sporting performance.
Furthermore, the selection guarantees space for teams from different regions of the country, dividing the 80 lottery places into four categories:
- Brasileirão Series A: 20 clubs that make up the national elite in 2026, including teams such as Flamengo, Palmeiras, São Paulo, Corinthians and Santos.
- Brasileirão Series B: 20 clubs from the access division, including regionally important brands such as Ceará, Sport Recife, Goiás and Coritiba.
- Brasileirão Series C: 20 teams, with the presence of traditional institutions such as Santa Cruz, Figueirense, Guarani and Paysandu.
- CBF Club Ranking: The remaining 20 vacancies were filled by the sports entities best ranked by the confederation that did not fit into the previous divisions, such as Brasiliense and Sampaio Corrêa.
Validity schedule and impact on Caixa’s lottery operations
According to the official text, the new collection biennium will officially come into force on May 2, 2026, extending until May 1, 2028.
The rules for distributing the funds raised remain unchanged, financially rewarding clubs that achieve the greatest engagement from their fans in lottery outlets and digital betting channels.
From now on, Caixa Econômica Federal will need to start adapting its systems to issue new Timemania tickets containing exclusively the 80 clubs approved by MESP.
