The João Pessoa City Council (CMJP) took an important step in local regulation of the gaming market by approving a bill that prohibits promotional broadcasts by betting houses in the capital of Paraíba.

The decision, taken during this Thursday’s session (28), targets betting advertising to try to curb the exposure of these platforms in areas of high circulation and activities promoted by the city hall.

In total, the day’s agenda also included the validation of dozens of matters, including ordinary projects and resolutions.

Where the restriction against betting advertising will apply in the city

The new legal measure (PLO 302/2025), proposed by councilor Guguinha Moov Jampa (PSD), establishes, above all, a strict blockade on several urban fronts.

The text prohibits advertisements on any furniture that requires authorization from the Government, which includes billboards, LED panels, bus stops and squares.

Furthermore, communication vehicles that operate under concession or permission from the municipality are prevented from advertising this type of service.

The siege on betting advertising also extends to the entertainment and education sectors.

Therefore, the promotion of gaming platforms at sporting, leisure or cultural events that receive sponsorship or support from the city hall is prohibited.

Likewise, uniforms and sports and school materials linked to municipal administration projects cannot bear operator brands.

Companies that fail to comply with the rules will receive a notification to take down all irregular advertising material, and may suffer a fine of up to 500 Reference Tax Units of the Municipality of João Pessoa (UFIR/JP), which currently have a unit value of R$53.20.

Chamber also advances in housing projects and honors

In addition to the restriction on games, parliamentarians approved 16 Ordinary Law Projects (PLO), 12 Legislative Decree Projects (PDL) and a Resolution Project (PR), which granted leave to councilor Kleber Geraldo.

Among the highlights sent by the Executive are the creation of the Legal Assistance and Land Regularization Office (PARF) and important adjustments to the João Pessoa Sustentável Program.

The House also authorized the donation of land for the construction of the headquarters of the Regional Labor Attorney’s Office and reallocated funds to the João Pessoa Cultural Foundation (Funjope).

Finally, the plenary recognized five health and assistance institutions as being of public benefit, granted personal citizenship to four personalities and awarded medals of honor to prominent professionals in the municipality.
