The Chamber of Deputies is expected to create a Special Committee to analyze the bill that creates stricter rules for betting house advertising. Congressman Hugo Leal (PSD-RJ) made the request to the president of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB).
The request for the creation of the Commission aims to speed up the processing of the project that deals with advertising by sportsbooks.
In the text of the request, Hugo Leal mentions that the project has already been processed by four committees. In addition, he requests the inclusion of one more on the list: the Economic Development Committee.
The deputy’s idea, however, is not for the proposal to be analyzed by yet another committee, but rather to meet the requirement to gain a special committee.
According to the Chamber‘s internal regulations, any project that is processed by five or more of the House’s thematic committees can go to a special committee.
Sportsbooks’ request to Motta and Hugo Leal’s request
According to reports, entities linked to the betting sector have made a request to the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta. The request is that Motta “slow down” the processing of the bill to regulate betting advertising.
According to Congressman Hugo Leal, the creation of the committee allows for broad dialogue. “The creation of the special committee will allow the topic to be addressed with due centrality, technical depth and legislative certainty, avoiding overlapping analyses between committees, providing greater institutional cohesion and enabling broad dialogue with the different sectors of civil society and the national economy,” he said.
In the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) sped up the vote. The president of the House approved the project in the plenary, reported by the leader of the PL, Carlos Portinho (RJ), shortly after the text was approved by the Sports Committee.
Given the speed at which the text was processed in the Senate, representatives of the betting houses asked Hugo Motta to let the text be analyzed by the Chamber’s thematic committees. This would slow down the processing.
