More than 300 companies and influencers that promote online betting are expected to be notified by the Rio de Janeiro government next Monday (23). Among the recipients will be all the influencers who recently attended the Bets CPI in the Senate, such as blogger Virginia Fonseca.
According to information, from the notice, those notified will have 10 days to prove the adoption of measures that meet the legal requirements that protect consumers.
The actions will be brought by the State Department of Consumer Protection and Procon-RJ. In addition, the notifications will request adjustments such as the provision of clear information about services, protection of minors and vulnerable people, control mechanisms to prevent over-indebtedness, responsible advertising and effective service channels.
According to the government, failure to comply with these requirements may result in the opening of administrative proceedings and the application of fines.
According to the statement, in addition to influencers, several sportsbooks, radio and TV stations, advertising agencies and technology companies are also among the companies that should receive the notification.
Bets CPI rejected final report with measures for bookmakers
These and other sectors of the betting industry in Brazil closely followed the work and meetings of the CPI das Bets. Thus, the work of the commission is concluded and the final report was rejected by the senators, on June 13th.
Senators Angelo Coronel (PSD-BA), Eduardo Gomes (PL-TO), Efraim Filho (União-PB) and Professor Dorinha Seabra (União-TO) voted against the report. Those in favor were Soraya, Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) and Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE).
However, after leaving the meeting, rapporteur Soraya Thronicke stated that she would hand over all the material to the competent authorities. “This does not prevent me from taking the report to all the authorities. I will hand over the report and all the documentation to the competent authorities so that they can continue the investigation, indict, and then present it to the Judiciary,” she stated.
Furthermore, the senator stated that she intends to visit a series of authorities to ensure the continuity of investigations related to the topic.
Among the names mentioned are Andrei Rodrigues, general director of the Federal Police; Paulo Gonet, attorney general of the Republic; Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF); Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski; Régis Dudena, secretary of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Treasury; and the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
