Deputy questions the destination of the funds collected by the government from sportsbooks


Federal Deputy Caio Vianna (PSD-RJ) filed a request for information to the Minister of Treasury, Fernando Haddad. Vianna requests information on the amounts collected, committed and executed since January 1st with the grants and taxation of sportsbooks.

In the request, the deputy makes it clear that he wants to verify whether the money collected by the government through the charging of the Betting Inspection Fee is serving the purpose determined by law.

In this case, knowing about the transfer of funds to the “unit of the Ministry of Finance responsible for monitoring the commercial operation of the fixed-odds betting lottery”.

“There is currently no consolidated public information on the effective collection, allocation and budgetary execution of these resources. This compromises fiscal transparency and makes institutional control by the Legislative Branch difficult,” says the parliamentarian.

Amounts collected from betting houses must go to the FNSP

The monthly fee is defined according to the value ranges that each bookmaker has for maintenance costs. Thus, starting with 54,419.56 reais for the range of companies with expenses of up to 30,837,749.76 reais.

In the highest range, the rate is 1,944,000.00 reais for betting houses with operating and maintenance costs above 660,960,000.01 reais per month.

Vianna also wants to check whether all other allocations of the proceeds from betting are being fulfilled. One of them, which has an essential function, such as 13.6% for the area of ​​public safety.

In addition to 12.6% for the National Public Security Fund (FNSP), 10% for education, 10% for social security and other links.

“Access to such information is essential for strengthening good governance, accountability and efficient use of public resources in a sensitive and rapidly growing sector such as betting,” says the deputy.
