Members of the CPI das Bets in the Senate must vote this Thursday (12) on the final report that requested the indictment of influencers Virginia Fonseca and Deolane Bezerra, in addition to 14 other people, including businessmen and representatives of sportsbooks.
The rapporteur of the CPI, Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS), presented the text last Tuesday (10). Therefore, the document needs to receive the green light from the collegiate. The material can only request indictment from the authorities, such as the Federal Public Ministry.
In addition, there is the possibility of analyzing a parallel report, with other requests and actions. However, the tendency is that only the rapporteur’s text will be evaluated. Even so, Soraya said that she would include parts of a document authored by Senator Izalci Lucas (PL-DF).
The final report, with more than 540 pages, also contains 18 projects and 21 measures that, according to the rapporteur, can help to curb risks to gamblers.
The text provides for the creation of three new crimes:
- A specific criminal type for the exploitation of illegal online betting;
- Another for the criminalization of illegal betting advertising;
- A third party for those who facilitate payments to unlicensed betting platforms.
Request for indictment of influencers
Last month, the Bets CPI drew attention due to the testimony of influencer Virginia Fonseca. According to the report, she should be indicted for crimes of fraud and misleading advertising. Punishments can reach up to six years in prison.
Virgínia’s lawyer, Michel Saliba, said in a note that he received the suggestion of indictment with “surprise and astonishment” and that he “awaits and trusts in the fair judgment to be given by the CPI board” in the final vote.
While Deolane Bezerra was summoned, she obtained a habeas corpus from the STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister André Mendonça that allowed her absence from the Bets CPI. Despite this, the rapporteur guarantees that the CPI “collected data that would be sufficient for the practice of crimes”.
Extension of the Bets CPI
The duration of the Bets CPI was extended by the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), on April 30 for another 45 days. In other words, a shorter period than that requested by the rapporteur, who would like to keep the committee until the end of the year.
