Bets CPI rejects final report

The Bets CPI rejected, this Thursday (12), the final report by Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS). There were 4 votes against and 3 in favor of the rapporteur’s text.

The report called for the indictment of 16 people, including digital influencers such as Virgínia Fonseca and Deolane Bezerra. The text also proposed 20 measures to contain the challenges brought about by online gambling.

Among them, the prohibition of games similar to slot machines (such as the so-called Jogo do Tigrinho, which would not affect real-time sports betting); and the prohibition of people registered with CadÚnico (an instrument that identifies low-income families) from betting virtually.

Senators Angelo Coronel (PSD-BA), Eduardo Gomes (PL-TO), Efraim Filho (União-PB) and Professor Dorinha Seabra (União-TO) voted against the report. Those in favor were Soraya, Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) and Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE).

The chairman of the committee, Senator Dr. Hiran, closed the vote and announced the result. “The report was rejected. Before closing, I would like to thank everyone: the press, advisors, consultants and everyone who helped us with the work of the committee. We try to do things as transparently as possible. I declare the work of this Parliamentary Inquiry Committee closed.”

After the meeting, rapporteur Soraya Thronicke gave an interview and stated that she will deliver all the material to the competent authorities. “This does not prevent me from taking the report to all the authorities. I will deliver the report and all the documentation to the competent authorities so that they can continue the investigation, indict, and then present it to the Judiciary,” she stated.

TreasuryThe senator also stated that she intends to visit a number of authorities to ensure the continuity of investigations related to the matter. Among the names mentioned are Andrei Rodrigues, director general of the Federal Police; Paulo Gonet, attorney general of the Republic; Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF); Minister of Justice Ricardo Lewandowski; Régis Dudena, secretary of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Finance; and the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

“What we have managed to contribute in terms of legislative proposals and also regulatory proposals has a lot to help. The aim is to minimize the damage. The work is not lost,” added the parliamentarian.
