Betting industry representatives request detailed analysis of project in the Chamber

Representatives of the online gambling sector met last week with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). The meeting aimed to request more time to analyze the project that establishes new advertising rules for the segment.

The proposal in question determines significant changes in the advertising of betting platforms. Among the main changes is the prohibition of animations for advertising, including characters such as “Tigrinho”.

Furthermore, the text prohibits the participation of digital influencers and professional athletes in advertising campaigns. The project also establishes time restrictions for the broadcasting of advertisements in the sector..

Processing in the Federal Senate

In the Federal Senate, President Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) conducted the process quickly. The proposal was approved in plenary session after being passed by the Sports Committee. The rapporteur for the project was the leader of the PL, Senator Carlos Portinho (RJ).

Positioning and request of the betting sector

Given the speed of approval in the Senate, the gambling sector presented a specific request to Motta. The representatives requested that the text be passed by the Chamber’s thematic committees before being voted on in plenary. This process would allow for more in-depth discussions on the impacts of the proposed restrictions.

The main objective is to enable debates in the House’s specialized committees. In this way, the deputies could analyze each point of the project in detail. The sector seeks to present its considerations on the changes suggested during this process.

Betting company representatives argue that several sectors are interested in the changes to the text. Among those interested are football clubs that have commercial partnerships with these platforms. Television broadcasters are also concerned about the proposed changes, as they broadcast advertising for the segment.

Finally, the request reflects the search for a broader dialogue on advertising regulation. The sector argues that discussions in the committees will allow for an assessment of the economic and social impacts of the restrictions.

Consequently, this detailed analysis could result in adjustments that balance consumer protection with market sustainability.
