The acting president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSD), declared that he intends to bring new rules for betting houses to the Ministry of Treasury. According to him, the objective is to “squeeze” the sports betting and online gaming sector in Brazil even more.

Alckmin’s statement was made this Monday (12), after being asked about the topic at an event of supermarket entities.

“The government regulated betting, limited its operations and taxed it. I will express my concern that it is necessary to tighten the rules on this issue even more,” said Alckmin during the opening ceremony of the 39th edition of APAS SHOW, an event promoted by the São Paulo Supermarket Association (APAS).

Alckmin’s position came after leaders in the supermarket sector criticized betting companies. According to industry representatives, these betting companies make millions in profits but employ few workers in Brazil.

Betting market in Brazil and the creation of new jobs

The iGaming industry, which involves sports betting and online gaming companies, has begun a process of opening new jobs in Brazil. Areas such as software developers and IT support to customer service representatives are among the professionals that the sector offers a wide range of opportunities.

In addition, other indirect positions related to this activity are also beginning to appear from the regulated market. The communications sector is one of these highlights.

With the expansion of bookmakers in Brazil, more and more job opportunities are emerging linked to advertisements for these companies in various media outlets. Betting companies have a strong presence on media such as radio, TV and, especially, the internet.

Other social and economic benefits of the sports betting market

The growth of iGaming in Brazil is also boosting the country’s infrastructure, particularly in technology and telecommunications. These online gaming platforms have attracted significant investment in high-speed internet and data centers.

The improvements benefit not only the broader economy, but also connectivity and technological capabilities, which are essential for multiple sectors.

In addition, the iGaming industry also stimulates spending and encourages the consumption of products related to fun and entertainment. The participation of Brazilians in online gaming for recreational purposes increases investment in partner companies, from payment processors to advertising agencies, further boosting economic activity.
