The Federal Government estimates that it will collect more than R$1.8 billion in annual inspection fees for fixed-odds companies, known as bets. The information was published in the press on Wednesday (19) and was based on the Access to Information Law (LAI).

Since February, when the Prizes and Betting Secretariat (SPA) of the Ministry of Treasury established the taxation of sports betting and online gambling companies, there has been a projection of a revenue value from these taxes.

In total, there are eight payment bands. This calculation takes into account the companies’ revenue. Monthly revenues of up to R$30.8 million would have the lowest tax rate.

Meanwhile, companies with revenues greater than R$660.96 are taxed at the maximum rate. According to SPA, the amounts collected monthly range from around R$54 thousand to over R$1.9 million.

All of this information is for interpretation purposes only and is included in an article produced by the newspaper Valor Econômico, in conjunction with the Ministry of Treasury. In turn, the ministry also released the number of companies that operate legally in Brazil. According to the agency, there are 80 legal entities that operate the fixed-odds lottery method.

According to this number, and the amounts that each betting company receives as fees, the government’s monthly revenue from the measure varies from R$4.353 million to R$155.52 million. In the year-to-year measurement, the amount varies from R$52.2 million to R$1.866 billion annually.

According to the information released, the Ministry of Treasury was contacted to inform the purpose for which the resources would be allocated. However, it did not respond. Also contacted by the media outlet, the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) chose to follow the same precept and also did not publicly position itself.
