The Prizes and Betting Secretariat (SPA) of the Ministry of Treasury and the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT). This agreement aims to protect the rights of bettors in the fixed odds betting sector, preventing negative impacts of this regulated market.

The entities agreed to create informative materials. The aim is to educate about consumer rights in this entertainment sector.

Guidelines for bettors

SPA and Senacon will produce useful guidance for bettors and entities in the National Consumer Protection System. This system includes state and municipal Procons, public defender offices, public ministries, and civil entities.

A collaboration with Senacon’s National School of Consumer Protection will promote training and inform bettors about prevention and awareness.

The ACT determines that all betting companies participate in the Consumidor.gov.br platform. This platform not only protects consumers but also monitors the activities of betting companies.

Regis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Betting, highlighted the importance of the partnership with Senacon to protect the rights of bettors. Therefore, he said: “In a market as new as this, providing people with information is especially important.”

The National Consumer Secretary, Wadih Damous, pointed out that “the ACT reinforces Senacon’s commitment to consumer protection”. Furthermore, it established the creation of a direct communication channel, quickly identifying patterns of complaints and irregularities in the sector.

Cooperation to strengthen betting supervision in Brazil

This cooperation aims to strengthen supervision and promote a safer environment. Fixed odds betting, a modality established as a public service since December 2018, is regulated by SPA laws and ordinances.

Therefore, since January 1st of this year, after an adaptation period, only authorized companies can operate, using the “.bet.br” domain on their websites.

Finally, this joint effort ensures that operations occur in accordance with current legislation, promoting transparency and security.
