The Senate decided to extend the investigation by the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) into the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting until April 1st, after President Davi Alcolumbre announced the extension of the work last Saturday.
This decision responds to the request of Senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO), leader of the CPI, who highlighted the impossibility of meetings due to the absence of the minimum number of senators required.
New information and trial of Lucas de Paquetá
The presentation of the final report, which is under the responsibility of Senator Romário (PL-RJ), was postponed.
Senator Kajuru justified the postponement by mentioning: “New information has started to reach us. The certainty that the English Federation will judge Paquetá in the first week of March”.
He added that they are awaiting details on the case of Lucas Paquetá, who faces an investigation for misconduct in sports betting in England.
Another significant point involves William Rogatto, known as the “king of relegation”, who is detained in Dubai.
Thus, William Rogatto publicly declared that he had earned R$300 million by manipulating results and claimed to have relegated 42 football teams in Brazil.
Kajuru highlighted: “The most important fact is the arrival, in the first half of March, in Brazil, of the extradited businessman, a confessed corrupt defendant… He would hand us a computer with everything he has not yet revealed, as well as new documentation.”
Testimony from William Rogatto at the Betting CPI
The Federal Police guarantees that, as soon as Rogatto arrives in Brasília, he will go to the Senate to clarify his involvement and, in addition, provide additional evidence.
Established in April 2024, the CPI aims to investigate allegations of match-fixing in Brazilian football, potentially involving players, managers and bookmakers.
Finally, the investigation remains focused on understanding the impact of this corruption on national sport, with the expectation of significant developments after Rogatto’s testimony.
