The province of San Juan in Argentina recently approved a bill aimed at regulating online casino gaming in the region. This movement aims to address crucial issues related to the sector.
Among the main objectives are the fight against illegal gambling, the promotion of responsible gambling, the prevention of fraud, the protection of minors under 18 years of age and the mitigation of gambling addiction.
Details of online casino legislation in San Juan
The new legislation covers a wide range of online casino games, including sweepstakes, raffles and betting. Regulation applies to all media, determining outcomes by luck, skill or a combination of the two.
This effort aims to create a safer and more controlled gaming environment, benefiting both players and authorized operators.
The San Juan Chamber of Deputies highlights that it considers online games practiced without due authorization to be illegal.
This includes both operators who operate without a license and those who, although licensed, do not have specific authorization for certain games or do not comply with established regulations.
Regulatory scenario in Latin America
It is important to note that online gambling had already been introduced in Buenos Aires, both in the city and in the province, in December 2021. Therefore, this expansion to San Juan represents a significant step in regulating the sector in Argentina.
In other parts of Latin America, regulation is also advancing. Regis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Bets at the Ministry of Treasury (SPA) of Brazil, announced that the country is finalizing the first 71 online betting registrations.
Therefore, the regulated sports betting and online gaming market will be officially launched on January 1, 2025.
In recent weeks, the Senate postponed the analysis of a bill that provides for the operation of bingos and physical casinos. Therefore, the proposal will need to go through other committees before returning to the House Plenary.
