Starting this week, the Ministry of Treasury begins the final phase of certification requirements for betting companies that registered by August 20th. This update comes directly from Régis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Bets at the Ministry.
In a recent interview, the secretary revealed that the list of companies authorized to operate in Brazil should be released in the second half of December.
Régis Dudena announces new payment rules
However, since August 20, a new round of companies has asked the government to register. The process for these new companies is ongoing, meaning this shows continued growth in the betting sector in the country.
In the interview, Dudena also addressed the possible ban on the use of Pix in installments to pay for bets. This issue will be analyzed with the market regulated and after relevant data has been collected.
The rules released in April allow payments only by Pix, transfers and debit, bringing more practicality and security to transactions.
An important point is the decision of Minister Luiz Fux, of the Federal Supreme Court. He maintained current legislation, ensuring legal stability for betting companies.
He took legal action in response to an action by the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC). The decision includes a ban on betting using Bolsa Família resources, but does not suspend the current rule. This action was endorsed by the STF, which reinforces the stability of the sector.
Health concerns and regulation
Furthermore, Secretary Dudena emphasized that the regulated betting market will require responsibility from both the Central Bank and the healthcare sectors. This is crucial given the increase in cases of betting addiction.
In this way, he considers the proposal from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), which seeks to expand its regulatory capacity, to be positive. This action will include companies offering digital infrastructure services, ensuring more robust oversight in this growing sector.
Finally, the secretary clarified that the process works dynamically, constantly evaluates authorizations and prioritizes who signed up first.
“From the last fortnight of December, a list of companies authorized to operate in Brazil from January 1, 2025 will be published in the Official Gazette. This list will include companies that made their request by August 20,” stated the secretary.
“After that date, approximately 170 other companies placed an order, but they will have to go through the entire process to receive authorization”, added Régis Dudena.
In summary, the Brazilian government seeks to regulate the betting market, which is growing rapidly and involves relevant social and economic issues. Therefore, this measure aims to bring transparency, protect bettors and increase revenue, boosting the economy.
