In the world of online betting, a new bill promises to revolutionize the way compulsive gamblers deal with their challenges. Federal congressman Kim Kataguiri (União-SP) presented a proposal to combat the risks of excessive gambling. The proposal is already being called “Serasa das Bets”.
“Serasa das Bets” would be a digital shield against compulsion
The project envisages the creation of a database similar to the well-known Serasa, exclusively for players who wish to protect themselves against compulsion to bet online.
Thus, the initiative allows bettors themselves to register voluntarily, with the possibility of removal after six months.
Therefore, the main characteristics of the project include:
- Voluntary and free registration
- Mandatory consultation of platforms before new registrations
- Protection mechanism for at-risk players
“We ensure that the restrictions are complied with, preventing individuals with compulsive behavior from having access to games that could worsen their condition”, explains Kataguiri about the proposal.
Extended protection beyond the individual bettor
The proposal goes beyond individual self-control. Spouses, partners and creditors can also request the inclusion of a name in “Serasa das Bets” in cases of financial risk. The creditor will have 15 days to prove the threat of insolvency, while the player will be able to contest the inclusion.
In parallel to the project, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) made important decisions about online betting. Then, Minister Luiz Fux validated measures to prevent beneficiaries of social programs from placing bets, representing a milestone in the regulation of the sector.
The decision took place during a virtual session and covers:
- Direct Unconstitutionality Actions (ADI) 7721 and 7723
- Restriction of the use of resources from assistance programs
- Challenge to Law 14,790/2023 (Bets Law)
Therefore, Kataguiri’s project represents an important step in the protection of vulnerable players, as it offers a tool for self-control and prevention in the world of online betting.
