The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, declared that there is no impediment to voting on Bill 2,234/2022. This project (known as Casinos PL) aims to legalize casinos, bingos and Jogo do Bicho in Brazil.

However, he conditioned the advancement of the measure to the simultaneous progression of actions to strengthen the regulation of the sports betting and online gaming sector. Pacheco believes that the Betting CPI, which will be established in the Senate, will contribute to bringing greater transparency to this activity.

During a busy week, marked by the meeting of the presidents of the G20 parliaments at the National Congress, which officially began this Wednesday (6), Rodrigo Pacheco held a brief press conference.

On that occasion, he assured that the Betting CPI did not lose relevance in the Senate. He also highlighted the importance of the commission in clarifying possible irregularities in the activity.

Betting CPI and Casinos PL

Senator Soraya Thronicke suggested the establishment of the Betting CPI, and Pacheco stated that “it has to be installed and start functioning”. Pacheco also added: “I think it is a good measure to seek to clarify and propose limitation and containment measures and better discipline in relation to these bets”.

Furthermore, he noted: “Unfortunately, Brazil has not approved land-based casinos, but they are now part of families’ lives.” In other words, this law (14,790) ended up placing casinos inside Brazilians’ homes.”

Regarding PL 2,234, which seeks to legalize casinos, bingos and Jogo do Bicho in Brazil, Rodrigo Pacheco confirmed that there are no obstacles to its vote in the Plenary. The expectation is that this project will be analyzed in the House Plenary later this year.

Senator Irajá (PSD-TO), rapporteur of the casino bill, recently said: “We are waiting for things to calm down a little, but I am convinced that this year we will approve the bill. We already have the necessary votes, we have convinced the senators, at least the majority”.
