Growing demand expanded the public hearing on the Betting Law, reflecting greater-than-expected interest. Consequently, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Luiz Fux, decided to extend the debates for a second day.
Initially planned for November 11th, the hearing will now also take place on the 12th, allowing more entities to participate in the legislative discussion.
Therefore, the decision to extend the event reflects the variety of voices that wish to contribute to the discussion. Presentations from 46 entities are planned, divided into three blocks over the two days. Among those who will speak are three football teams: Botafogo, Cruzeiro and Fluminense.
Debates about the Betting Law
In addition to these sports representatives, other influential entities will have the opportunity to express their opinions. The National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC) is one of the main stakeholders, as it argues that gambling is increasing family debt and reducing the circulation of income, which affects retail trade.
Other entities that will be present include the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf), the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), the Ministry of Health and the Central Bank.
It is worth noting that this process may or may not overturn the Betting Law in the national territory. Currently, the Ministry of Treasury is leading the implementation of the regulatory framework, which will officially come into operation on January 1, 2025.
This Tuesday (5), the Treasury Secretariat for Prizes and Bets (SPA) launched a normative instruction with the rules for using the “bet.br” domain on sports betting sites in Brazil.
“The Prizes and Betting Secretariat of the Ministry of Treasury will examine requests for registration of “bet.br” domains registered at the Ponto BR Information and Coordination Center – NIC.br by fixed-odd betting operating agents and will verify the criteria” , is included in the measurement.
