The Chamber of Congressmen took an important step last Monday (04) by approving the urgency of the bill that aims to establish the National Policy for Awareness and Combating Technological Addiction among children and adolescents. Furthermore, the project seeks to expand measures that prohibit children and young people under the age of majority from participating in sports betting and online games.
Bans affect online advertising and betting
The vote, carried out symbolically, guaranteed that the project will be included on the agenda of the next deliberative session of the Chamber, scheduled for Tuesday (05). If the proposal passes this stage, it will go to the Senate for analysis.
The project, authored by deputy Romero Rodrigues (Podemos-PB), also proposes a ban on advertisements carried out by sports betting websites in schools and educational institutions. In this way, the intention is to protect young people from direct gaming stimuli.
Furthermore, the text will bar the circulation of advertisements that feature the participation of minors, or that are targeted at children and teenagers. This measure is seen as fundamental to ensuring a safer and healthier environment.
Stricter penalties
Another crucial point of the project is the toughening of penalties for companies that commit infractions related to online betting for children under 18 years of age. This proposal aims not only to curb irregular practices, but also to protect the integrity of young people.
In 2023, the National Congress approved new legislation for betting companies in Brazil. Subsequently, the Federal Government issued ordinances to detail the application of the law.
Thus, the new proposal seeks to create a more responsible and sustainable gaming environment. At the same time, it protects future generations from potential risks associated with technological addiction.
