The Ministry of Treasury, through the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), sent to Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) a list of 1,443 domains considered illegal in the country.

This action is part of an ongoing operation that began in October. The objective is to block betting websites that have not requested authorization to operate in Brazil, the initial deadline for requesting it expired on September 17th. However, interested players can still submit a request to the Betting Management System (SIGAP).

This initiative is part of a greater effort by the Brazilian government to regulate the betting market. The government is analyzing the requests made and will publish, by December 31st, an official list of authorized platforms.

Thus, from January 1st of next year, only these platforms will be able to operate legally in Brazilian territory.

Prizes and Betting Secretariat

The Prizes and Betting Secretariat centralizes the implementation of ordinances that regulate the transition and operation of gaming activities. These actions seek not only to protect consumers, but also to ensure that betting operations comply with established standards and contribute adequately to tax revenue.

After sending the list, Anatel will notify around 21 thousand telecommunications companies across the country (including operators and internet providers). This way, it will take a few days to completely block the sites.

The measures aim to organize the sector and promote fair competition between companies that wish to act in accordance with Brazilian laws. However, the first blocking action ended up affecting affiliated and media sites, such as Yogonet. The news portal, which contacted SPA, returned after a few days off the air.

Companies authorized by the Ministry of Treasury to operate in Brazil

At the beginning of October, the Ministry of Treasury released the list of companies authorized to operate in the country. Then, the update on the 18th revealed that there are 219 bets from 100 companies on the national list.

Furthermore, there are 26 companies in the states: five in Paraná, four in Maranhão, one in Minas Gerais, eight in Rio de Janeiro and eight in Paraíba.

On the other hand, the negative list, which includes prohibited bets, requires more time. This occurs because the Ministry of Treasury needs to provide legal justification for refusing authorizations.
