The Chamber of Congressmen is discussing an important bill that proposes to prohibit the offering and promotion of illegal gambling games online. Deputy Duda Ramos (MDB-RR) presented the project registered as PL 2564/24.
This project aims to increase security and regulation, aiming for social well-being and avoiding the risks associated with illegal gambling.
Details of the proposal on illegal gambling
The project begins by proposing that internet service providers be obliged to block any website that offers or promotes betting games without due authorization.
Furthermore, digital platforms will be responsible for adopting technical actions that prevent the dissemination and promotion of these games. Digital influencers who promote unauthorized gaming practices may lose their profiles and face administrative and judicial penalties.
The Congressman emphasized the need for effective action. “It is imperative to address this matter by regulating gambling addiction as a public health issue.”
It prioritizes combating gaming addiction, highlighting the need for a serious approach due to the financial, family and social impacts.
Monitoring and inspection
The proposal also includes the implementation of rigorous monitoring and inspection systems for illegal online gaming. These systems are intended to identify and remediate activities that may exploit gaming addiction.
Therefore, Ramos highlighted the importance of these measures, mentioning that “it is essential for the defense of Brazilian consumers”, highlighting his commitment to protecting citizens against predatory practices.
Project progress
Currently, PL 2564/24 is being evaluated by the Communication, Constitution and Justice, and Citizenship committees in the Chamber of Congressmen.
After this evaluation, the project will go to the Senate, where it also needs approval before becoming law. In this way, the regulated Brazilian market will come into force on January 1, 2025, with measures to stop excessive and misleading advertising.
