This Wednesday (14), the Science and Technology Commission (CCT) will discuss the impacts of online betting games, such as the “tiger game“. Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS) requested the public hearing, which will take place in Plenary 7 of Ala Alexandre Costa, at 11 am.
The objective is also to analyze how these games affect society and discuss measures to ensure their adequate regulation.
The senator highlighted the importance of the Senate’s supervisory role, especially in relation to Ordinance No. 1,207 of 2024, issued by the Ministry of Treasury. This ordinance establishes the criteria for the certification of online games, in accordance with Law No. 14,790 of 2023.
This law, sanctioned in December 2023, regulates fixed odds betting in Brazil. One of the central points of the debate will be Fortune Tiger, popularly known as the “little tiger game”.
The senator emphasized the need to prevent minors from accessing these games, to protect young people and, thus, ensure that the activities take place in a transparent and responsible manner.
“It is crucial that the Senate exercises its supervisory role to ensure that these activities are conducted in a transparent, responsible manner and within the established legal parameters” says the senator in the request.
To enrich the discussion, the organizers invited the presidents of One Internet Group (OIG), Fernando Oliveira Lima, and the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), Plínio Augusto Lemos Jorge.
Representatives from the ministries of Science, Technology and Innovation, Finance and Justice and Public Security will also participate in the event.
How to join the online gambling debate
The hearing will be interactive, allowing public participation. Citizens can send questions and comments by calling the Senate Ombudsman’s Office (0800 061 2211) or via the e‑Citizenship Portal.
During the event, senators and debaters can read and respond to these comments live. In addition, the Senate offers a declaration of participation, which participants can use as additional activity hours in university courses.
The e‑Citizenship Portal also allows citizens to express their opinion on projects being processed in the Senate and suggest new laws.
