An ordinance published this Wednesday morning (31) by the Ministry of Treasury established new guidelines for platforms that offer online betting games.
The new rules will even apply to games such as “Fortune Tiger”, popularly known as “Jogo do Tigrinho”.
Types of online betting games
The ordinance distinguishes several categories of online gambling games, including:
- Cards;
- Crash
- Sports or racing;
- Dice;
- Line;
- Roulette;
- Drawing balls and numbers.
But in the specific case of the “Tigrinho Game,” it is allowed because it has a fixed quota and randomly determined results, as defined in Law 14,790/2023.
Therefore, platforms now have clarity about how they must operate to comply with the legislation. Here are some guidelines for online betting:
- Random Results. The results of the games must be determined randomly, using random generators of numbers, symbols, figures or objects.
- Bet Multiplier. Platforms must inform the bet multiplier that can influence the value of the prize received.
- Pay Table. Before placing a bet, the player must have access to a pay table that explains all the winning possibilities.
- Inactive Player. If a player is inactive for 30 minutes, he must be removed from the game.
- Prohibition of Physical Machines. Only digital formats are permitted. Therefore, physical slot machines remain prohibited.
Transparency and accessibility
The ordinance emphasizes the importance of providing clear and accessible information about games. So, platforms should include:
- Details about rules
- How to make payments
- Minimum and maximum betting limits
So, this information must be available throughout the game, ensuring that players are always informed. Furthermore, the following platforms are prohibited from:
- Promise future prizes
- Promising false benefits to players
In other words, online betting platforms cannot carry out any type of advertising that suggests that the bettor will have guaranteed winnings.
In multiple betting games, each bet must be clearly specified to avoid confusion about the amounts and credits wagered. Furthermore, present each prize clearly so that the player associates the prize with the bet that generated it.
Online betting bonus rules
The ordinance also regulates the use of bonuses to encourage betting. If a game requires multiple achievements to activate a prize, clearly indicate the number of achievements required and the points already earned.
Therefore, in cases where incentive prizes depend on multiple events or rounds, there must be a counter indicating the progress. If extra credits are needed to continue in a bonus, the player must be able to choose whether to continue.
The ordinance also defines rules for:
- Bet doubling functionality;
- Demo mode;
- Automatic betting mode;
- Online persistence games;
- Playing the game from a saved point;
- Accumulated prizes;
- Deactivation and suspension of games and prizes;
- Live online games
Therefore, these new rules are an important step towards regulating the online betting market in Brazil, ensuring that platforms operate in a transparent and fair way for all players.
