The Official Gazette of the Union last Friday (12) brought a series of appointments to the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets of the Ministry of Finance. Furthermore, a decree by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva formalized the creation of the National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sports of the Ministry of Sports.
Structure of the Sports Betting Secretariat
According to the new structure led by André Fufuca, the Sports Betting Secretariat will have the following divisions:
- Electronic Sports,
- Monitoring and Evaluation of Sports Betting,
- Sports Betting Integrity,
- Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy of Sport.
In an interview with the program “Bom Dia, Minister”, broadcast by Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) on June 27, the Minister of Sports announced the creation of the authority.
According to Fufuca, the secretariat’s main objective will be to monitor and inspect all sporting issues related to betting. The procedure was made official through restructuring with the Civil House and the Federal Government.
“We are going to create a structure within the ministry that will monitor and supervise the modality. To achieve this, we will work with the necessary integrity and transparency”, declared the person responsible for the department.
The minister also cited the work promoted by the CPI for the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting in the Senate, which should be extended. This is because Senator Jorge Kajuru stated that the commission already has sufficient basis to continue the investigations.
“We are following the Federal Senate’s CPI on the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting, talking to Congress about the matter.”
“We have already suggested bills aimed at curbing both the sportsman who practices this criminal act and any type of external author who encourages the practice”, concluded Fufuca.
