Federal deputy Vermelho (Nelsi Coguetto Maria) seeks to speed up the vote on Bill 442 in the National Congress. Thus, the PL provides for the legalization of gambling and casinos in Brazil, aiming to resolve fiscal impasses.

According to Vermelho, legalization could generate more than R$20 billion annually in taxes, offsetting the reduction in payroll.

After the presidential veto to extend payroll tax relief until 2027, the situation between the Government and Congress became tense. The exemption, which benefited 17 sectors, was revoked by a Provisional Measure, alleging a possible deficit of up to R$30 billion.

Vermelho expresses disappointment with the MP, highlighting the importance of the exemption for the economy and jobs.

He proposes that Bill 442, already approved in the Chamber, is the solution. Studies indicate that the legalization of gaming could generate R$20 to 40 billion in tax revenue.

In addition to casinos, PL 442 legalizes bingo, video bingo, online games, slot machines and turf betting.

Deputy Vermelho, a member of the working group that modernized the project, promises to talk to the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, to speed up the vote to boost jobs and revenue.

The legalization of casinos, according to Vermelho, would boost tourism, attracting investment and development.

With approximately two million Brazilian players and the existing infrastructure for international gaming, legalization could avoid the loss of millions of dollars spent by tourists in foreign casinos.

“It can boost tourism, creating a new era of development in the country, attracting foreign tourists, improving the infrastructure of destinations, growing neighboring cities and expanding the hotel sector,” he said in a recent interview.

“By not having a casino in our country, we are unable to earn the millions of dollars that foreign and Brazilian tourists spend when they travel abroad to gamble.

While other countries find casinos a source of high revenue and tourist attraction, Brazil insists on illegality”, added Vermelho.

According to Deputy Vermelho, casinos can boost tourism

The project also allows casinos in national tourist destinations to strengthen tourism and generate jobs. However, Vermelho highlights the need for balance to avoid negative impacts on the local economy.

“For cities like Foz do Iguaçu, we created the type of tourist casinos with a large structure for games, restaurants and an amphitheater”, he highlighted.

“We will take advantage of the excellent hotel infrastructure that already exists, generating more jobs and development”, added the deputy.

Thus, the legalization of the physical gaming market emerges as a proposal not only to boost entertainment, but as a strategy to strengthen public finances and promote economic development.
