The Chamber of Deputies intends to reinsert online casinos in the final opinion of the sports betting PL to be considered this Tuesday, 19th.
According to CNN, the forecast was included in the initial report voted on in the Federal Senate last week.
However, the section was blocked after the opposition, with support from the evangelical bench, approved a highlight by senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ).
According to sources heard by CNN, the rapporteur in the Chamber of Deputies, Adolfo Viana (PSDB-BA), has already indicated that he will replace the casinos in his final opinion to be voted on in the House today.
However, parliamentarians stated that there is pressure from the evangelical bench and opposition to the Federal Government for this item to be vetoed once again before the PL is sent for sanction.
The Ministry of Finance projects that, with the chance of online casinos being relocated, the expected revenue rises from R$3 billion to R$15 billion per year.
So far, more than 130 companies have signaled their interest in regularizing bets and each grant will cost approximately R$30 million.
President of the Chamber guaranteed a vote on the project before the recess
Recently, the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), confirmed that deputies must vote on the proposal to regulate sports betting before the legislative recess.
“I wanted to pass on an schedule to all of you. We should look into it, and Celso (Sabino, Minister of Tourism) asked, during this next week, about the vote on the regularization of online games, which is the starting point so that resources can also go to Tourism”, stated Lira, during speech at the opening of the 2023 National Tourism Exhibition, in Brasília.
Sports betting PL
The text approved by the Senate allows online sports betting, however it excluded online casinos. Until now, the tax burden on sports betting companies will be 12% and 15% on prizes obtained by bettors.
It is worth noting that the rates are lower than those approved by the Chamber of Deputies and suggested by the government’s economic team. Previously, the percentages were 18% and up to 30%, respectively.
According to the text, the charge of R$30 million for grant titles for betting houses valid for 5 years is defined.
