The sports betting scenario in Brazil is about to be regularized. Senator Jorge Kajuru revealed that “on Wednesday, the 22nd, the sports betting PL will be voted on”. This vote is crucial as it will determine new rules for the sector, with a special emphasis on protecting young people, which includes facial recognition in betting.
Protection of minors: facial recognition in betting
One of the main changes proposed is the implementation of facial recognition to prevent people under 18 from placing bets. Kajuru emphasizes that this measure is central to “prohibiting betting for those under 18”.
Thus, facial recognition technology emerges as a powerful tool to ensure responsibility and security in the betting sector.
In addition to protecting minors, the PL proposes significant restrictions on betting advertising. According to Kajuru, there will be “limited advertising” on various platforms, including televisions, stadium signs and player uniforms.
This is because the measure aims to reduce the exposure and appeal of sports betting, especially among young people.
Financial repercussions and social contributions
Another important change refers to the rates charged to betting companies. The PL suggests a reduction from 18% to 12% of the revenue obtained, discounting the premiums paid.
Furthermore, the PL reduces Income Tax on betting prizes from 30% to 15% on prizes above R$2,112.00.
Kajuru also mentions that “a percentage of the amount collected must be donated to the Federal Police”.
The text also establishes that the Ministry of Finance will grant authorizations for companies to operate in the Brazilian sports betting sector.
These authorizations, with a term of five years and a cost of R$30 million, will be exclusive to companies. This measure, therefore, aims to ensure that only serious and committed entities operate in the sports betting market.
