Senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO) declared that he will be the president of the mixed committee of the sports betting PM.

According to Poder360, the commission still does not have an official date. But, Kajuri already points out changes in the project forwarded by the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

“There will therefore be a joint commission, my name having already been defined as president of this joint commission for having been the 1st senator to file a bill for regularization and taxation of these houses and the discussion on the manipulation of results”, said Kajuru .

The Federal Government edited the sports betting PM on June 25th. The norms have already entered into force, however, they need to be considered by the National Congress within four months in order not to lose their validity.

Kajuru pointed out that the text needs to be adjusted. According to the senator, the MP for sports betting fails to combat the match-fixing.

“The text pleased, but it remains to be discussed further, the question of bookmakers needs to be better punctuated and not just concerned with regularizing them and pricing them”

“There are more serious things involved. The manipulation of football results has everything to do with bookmakers”, added the senator.

In May of this year, the Ministry of Finance decided to tax sports betting companies on the GGR (Gross Gaming Revenue), the income from games after the payments of prizes to bettors.

The predicted taxation at the time was 16%, with 1% for the Ministry of Sport. But, according to the new MP for sports betting, the percentage allocated to the body rose to 3%, increasing the total to 18%.

What has changed from the betting regulation?

The sports betting PM proposes the following allocation of taxation resources:

  • 10% social security contribution;
  • 0.82% for basic education;
  • 2.55% to the National Public Security Fund;
  • 1.63% to clubs and athletes whose names and symbols are linked to bets;
  • 3% to the Ministry of Sports.

Therefore, the Federal Government intends to forward a bill to the National Congress to address the structure and processes aimed at overseeing the sports betting sector.

Thus, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad plans to raise approximately R$ 2 billion next year with the new rules for betting.

In the long term, with the market completely regulated and the market increasing, the annual collection potential should range from R$ 6 billion to R$ 12 billion.
