The National Association of Gambling and Lotteries (ANJL) spoke out against the decision of the Federal Government to tax the Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) by 16%. According to the Poder360 website, the organization of the betting sector stated that the measure adopted is “excessive”.
For the association, corporate taxes cannot exceed the 30% mark. The ANJL also pointed out that the proposal to tax the winnings for the gambler could result in a considerable decrease in legal bets, as well as in revenue.
“The ANJL understands that the tax burden stipulated by the government is excessive. First, because it is not just the 16% (when what was previously mentioned was 15%), but the total sum of corporate taxes, which reaches almost 30%. And, more important than taxation on operators, is the amount of taxes on bettors’ earnings, which can lead to a reduction in betting at licensed venues for operators abroad, without raising taxes for Brazil”, says the statement. oficial sent to Poder360.
The expectation of the Federal Government is to raise approximately 15 billion reais annually. This Thursday, the 11th, the Ministry of Finance sent the provisional measure (MP) for sports betting to the Civil House. The Ministries of Planning, Management and Innovation, Health, Tourism and Sports are also co-authors of the measure.
ANJL criticizes 30% taxation on the bettor’s prize
In addition, the text provides that the value received by the bettor as a prize is taxed at 30% of the Income Tax (IR), a rule criticized by the ANJL. Remembering that the Federal Government will not tax amounts that are within the IR exemption range of R$ 2,112.00.
According to the Government, the resources collected will be transferred to strategic sectors such as social security (10%); National Public Security Fund (2.55%); sports clubs (1.63%); Ministry of Sports (1%) and basic education (0.82%).
