The Secretary of Prizes and Betting (SPA), Regis Dudena, participated in the first edition of ICE in Barcelona between the 20th and 22nd of January. The representative of the Ministry of Treasury took a closer look at the great interest of the global betting industry in the Brazilian market.
“It is my first participation in an ICE at a very important moment for Brazil, as we have just started the regulated market. We left years in which there was an expectation of legalization – without proper regularization. And now, finally, we have a regulated market”, he stated.
“It is very interesting to come here and see the size of the sector and know that of the actors that are here, many have strong interests in Brazil. From our point of view, it is important to see which of them are interested in complying with the rules that were created, with all the controls and care for bettors and the Brazilian popular economy”, he added.
For Regis Dudena, 2025 will be ‘a lot of learning’
According to the Secretary of Prizes and Bets, 2025 will be a period of much learning. “A year of a lot of learning. We managed, it seems to me, to create very modern regulations, with a team that worked hard to create something inspired by the best international experiences.”
However, Regis Dudena considered the need to analyze the effects of the rules and promote possible adjustments. “Now, it is important for everyone to know that regulation, by its very nature, always requires control, to understand what was done and to understand whether the effects generated are those expected. Adjustments will always be necessary in order to improve and protect everyone involved in the sector.”
The secretary added: “We already have full regulation today, but regulation is a cycle. This happens in all regulated jurisdictions. I am sure that in Brazil it will be no different.”
Participation of the Prizes and Betting Secretariat in industry events
Asked about its possible participation in fairs relevant to the Brazilian industry, Dudena assured that SPA will always be represented. “The idea is always for the secretariat to be represented at all important events, so that we can increasingly understand the sector”, he concluded.
