Simon Thomas, executive chairman of London’s iconic Hippodrome Casino, highlighted sustainability, AI and the convergence of online and land-based gaming as the three “key trends” he believes will stand out at ICE Barcelona.
Looking ahead to what will be the biggest games fair in history, Simon Thomas said:
“From energy-efficient gaming machines to eco-certifications for gaming venues, the industry is prioritizing environmental responsibility. So this change is not just about corporate responsibility; it is a response to the growing demand from players and stakeholders for more environmentally friendly operations.”
ICE Barcelona will be the stage for many inspirations
He believes that the development of cutting-edge technology will be applied in many different ways.
“As the trend continues to use technologies like AI to create safer gaming environments while developing more engaging gaming solutions for customers, I hope ICE reflects this.” – said Simon. “This will include applications that refine customer personalization, optimize team placement, and enhance/encourage responsible gaming.”
But on a macro level, Thomas believes there will be a sharper convergence between online and physical games. This is because operators seek to offer seamless transitions between physical and digital games, thus attracting a wider audience.
Thus, when announcing the first edition of ICE to be held outside the United Kingdom, Simon Thomas stated:
“With the move to Barcelona, I am particularly excited about the city’s vibrant culture and its potential to foster new perspectives on networking and innovation. Barcelona’s global appeal aligns perfectly with ICE’s international reach.”
“This will provide a backdrop that promises inspiration for all participants. This is a new chapter for ICE in one of the world’s most iconic locations. Welcome to everyone!”
Visitors to ICE Barcelona will have access to the world’s largest and most respected innovative brands, representing all gambling verticals. The industry’s leading trade associations, strategic bodies, regulators, CEOs of blue-chip operators and game creators will be present in Barcelona in record numbers. It is no coincidence that the fair’s reputation is known as the “Davos of games”.
