The gambling industry in Brazil is going through a period of transformation, especially with the advancement of regulations and the growth of the sector. During SiGMA Europe 2024 in Malta, the national industry gained prominence on the first day.
One of Tuesday‘s seminars focused on the evolution of emerging markets, such as Peru, Brazil and Africa.
Experts Maurizo Soccodato (Global Lab), Ohad Straschnov (Soft2Bet), Danilo Arribichello (PG Gaming) and Victor Borg Barthet (Air Dice Malta) participated in this international debate.
Furthermore, Witoldo Hendrich and Pedrão Bet discussed the main challenges, which include regulation, taxation and a series of criticisms that affect the industry’s image.
Therefore, companies work to create a unified representation that can dialogue with the government and society on these topics and promote a more positive and balanced understanding of the sector.
One of the biggest obstacles faced by the gaming industry in Brazil is the negative perception on the part of some organizations and sectors of society.
According to Witoldo Hendrich during SiGMA Europe 2024, recent studies show that much of the criticism comes from sectors with conflicting interests, such as the beverage industry.
A possible reason for these criticisms is the increase in Brazilian spending on games to the detriment of other sectors. Based on this, the gaming sector in Brazil began to mobilize and demystify all these allegations, including through legal action.
Social responsibility and transparency on the agenda at SiGMA Europe 2024
The gaming industry today is trying to improve its social responsibility towards the Brazilian population and promote a positive image, in reaction to criticism.
The creation of an association that represents the entire chain allows the main points of interest to be discussed openly with the government and society. The role of this association, ABRAJOGO, is to ensure that the sector contributes in a positive way, including with regard to tax collection and job creation.
One of the fundamental points for changing the image is transparency. The introduction of digital payment technologies, such as Pix, allowed greater control over transactions. Now, the government and society can more clearly monitor where resources from the betting sector are being directed.
