Supermatch eSports reach 10% of Uruguayan betting operator revenue

Uruguay authorized the online sports betting market only with the Supermatch brand, operated by the state itself. According to information from SBC Notícias, the platform announced that the electronic games segment was the highlight of last year.

According to the manager of the only benchmark in the betting industry in the country, Fabián García, eSports accounted for 10% of all revenues for the past year and is accounting for 2.7% of current businesses. However, the operator expects the segment’s revenue to grow over the year.

Garcia pointed out that over the most challenging months of the new coronavirus pandemic – between March and July last year – the site registered a decline of 60% to 70%. However, Supermatch was only able to contain the other 30% of users due to the offers added in that period, such as electronic sports.

The bets on these games ended up targeting NBA 2K and Fifa 21. “I think they have the potential to grow, we have to try to get closer to a new audience, there is a lot to explore, especially the strategy games that didn’t perform well and around the world attract attention ”, stated Garcia.

He added: “In Uruguay, which is very passionate about football, the sports teams worked very well. We have some ideas to continue to grow, both live and in pre-game offers ”.

Year 2021 begins with high numbers in the Supermatch

Uruguayan bookmaker ended the season in a downfall. However, the first month of 2021 already exceeded the turnover of January of last year by 10%, while the number of Supermatch customers grew by 15%.

“We got new accounts with eSports, and these new accounts are working, new customers have joined, but there have also been discoveries from some people who are now also betting on e-sports.”
