MGM Resorts has renewed the contract of its CEO, Bill Hornbuckle, through 2028. According to the company’s statement, Hornbuckle may also take on an advisory role on the company’s resort project in Osaka, Japan. MGM Resorts is headquartered in Las Vegas.

According to MGM Chairman Paul Salem, Bill plays an important role in the company.

“Bill is an exceptional and visionary leader who has successfully led the company through the COVID-19 pandemic, while positioning the business for long-term growth through new digital ventures, strategic M&A opportunities, and expansion into new international markets,” he said.

An MGM employee since 1998, Hornbuckle was named interim CEO in March 2020 amid the early stages of the coronavirus outbreak. He succeeded Jim Murren. Hornbuckle was promoted to the role on a permanent basis in June of that year.

“The success we have achieved over the past five years is a testament to our leadership team and our employees. Together, we will continue to pursue our vision of being the world’s premier gaming entertainment company,” Hornbuckle said in a statement.

Hornbuckle is experienced in the MGM management process

As CEO, Hornbuckle oversaw the addition of The Cosmopolitan operations to MGM’s portfolio and the $1 billion sale of The Mirage to Hard Rock. The company also entered into a loyalty partnership with Marriott International.

Challenges during his tenure include a major cybersecurity attack in 2023 that paralyzed operations for several days. Additionally, the company recently settled a class action lawsuit resulting from the breach for $45 million.

MGM also settled with Nevada regulators for $8.5 million last month over allegations the company allowed illegal bookmakers to place bets at its casinos.

The situation was part of the scandal involving Scott Sibella, former president of Resorts World Las Vegas and Ippei Mizuhara, former interpreter for Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani.
