Technically, the iconic property will remain on the Las Vegas Strip, but it will soon undergo a three-year renovation that will ditch the Mirage Las Vegas name and its iconic tropical themes.
Mirage Las Vegas was part of the Golden Age of hotels
The Mirage has long been a mainstay of Las Vegas Strip history. It first opened to the public in 1989 and was at the forefront of a new wave of luxury resorts in the gaming capital of the world. It was also the first hotel on the Strip with a sidewalk attraction – its classic volcano.
Along with the iconic volcano, the Mirage was also known for hosting shows by magicians Siegfried and Roy and Cirque du Soleil.
MGM Resorts purchased the Mirage from Wynn in 2000. In 2022, MGM sold the resort for more than $1 billion to Hard Rock International, the current owner.
Once renovations are complete, the site will be home to a new Hard Rock Las Vegas resort, which will come complete with a towering guitar tower.
“We look forward to the start of an exciting journey into a new era as Hard Rock Las Vegas sets the Strip on fire with world-class entertainment, innovation and hospitality,” the Mirage Las Vegas profile said in a Facebook post.
The resort and casino will officially cease operations on July 17th. The company will cancel active reservations after this date and issue refunds to affected customers.
Unmissable promotion
But according to Las Vegas Tour VIP, the Mirage is promoting one last big action. The hotel will say goodbye in style with a promotion aimed at paying US$1.6 million.
The enterprise must pay this amount before the property closes on the 17th at midnight.
Thus, from 3pm to 7pm each day:
- 9/7 to 11/7: $200,000 in guaranteed winnings
- 7/12 to 7/13: $250,000 in guaranteed winnings
- 7/16: US$100,000 in prize money will be awarded.
