The capital of Mexico reported new changes to its flexibility plan as of this Monday, 15. The new measures include the release of the face-to-face games, casinos and nightclubs segment, in addition to the extension of the opening hours of bars and restaurants.

After a series of actions released at the end of last year, operators of casinos, bingos and sports bookmakers were forced to shorten the public service period and even temporarily close the establishments in order to control the cases of contagion of the new coronavirus in Mexico City.

According to the head of the local government, Claudia Sheinbaum, the resumption of the economy can now be prioritized after several weeks in which the city remained with the epidemiological alert in orange.

Claudia stressed that it is still necessary to apply strict safety and hygiene protocols, prioritizing the return to work in places with outdoor space.

Conditions for the reopening of casinos and bookmakers

Casinos and sports bookmakers will only be able to receive players until 8 pm with a 20% capacity restriction. In addition, the local government has also decreed that no bettor may stay within the betting venues for more than 60 minutes.

According to information from Mexico’s health authorities, the capital recorded 584,000 positive cases of the disease with 29,000 victims. The country accounted for 2.1 million cases with about 194,000 deaths.

Regionally, the situation got out of hand in Mexico City after the end of the year, forcing non-essential services to close again. Since then, the government has been easing the measures in order to encourage the resumption of economic activities in the country’s capital.
