Bookmakers accredited by LOTERJ completed their first year of operation in June. During these twelve months, they paid out more than R$2.3 billion in prizes to bettors.

This pioneering initiative in Brazil includes five bets operating regularly under the seal of LOTERJ: Apostou RJ, Bestbet, Marjosports, Rio Jogo and Pixbet.

LOTERJ profit goes to social development

The resources from the games are destined for vulnerable communities in the State of Rio de Janeiro. LOTERJ, committed to social responsibility, dedicates 70% of its net profit to social projects.

Thus, in partnership with Rio Solidário, LOTERJ supports the education and development of around 600 children, funding early childhood education spaces in communities such as Espaço Infantil Jardim Batan, Cidade de Deus and Vila do João.

Furthermore, it contributes to combating domestic violence against women, fully financing the Women’s Home. This space serves up to 60 women and their children up to 18 years of age, offering individualized care, socio-educational activities and psychological support.

“Everyone benefits from the accreditation of bets. In this way, far beyond prizes, the regularized activity contributes to the collection of municipal, state and Union public coffers”, president of LOTERJ, Hazenclever Lopes Cançado.

“And the collection of taxes (and taxes) returns to society through quality services. A formal betting market provides security for bettors and more development for Rio de Janeiro and Brazil”, he added.

Perspectives for the future

Other companies, both Brazilian and international, are in the accreditation process, including:

  • Caesars Sportsbook
  • Key Solution Gaming of Bet
  • PNR
  • Purple & Green
  • SDL Loterias

Under the leadership of Governor Claudio Castro, LOTERJ overcame challenges and created a new model for managing the lottery business. This opens up great opportunities for investors to work regularly in the country.

“Overcoming challenges, LOTERJ created a new model for managing the lottery business, led by Governor Claudio Castro, which provides great opportunities for investors to work regularly in the country”, says the entity’s official note.

It is worth noting that in compliance with the determination of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) informed providers operating in the state of Rio de Janeiro to block the URLs of betting sites that do not have authorization from Loterj.

Thus, the action generated repercussions in the national market, dividing opinions due to the grant value of R$5 million for a period of 5 years of exploration in Rio de Janeiro. However, this amount is well below the request by the Ministry of Finance, which is R$30 million.
