Sports betting companies, known as “bets“, are taking on an increasingly important role on the world football scene. They are already responsible for three in every ten sponsorships in elite football.
In Brazil, this number increased to eight out of ten, after a new Vasco agreement. But all these discoveries are the result of an unprecedented survey on football sponsorship carried out by the Bolavip Brasil website.
Sponsorship of bokkmakers in Brazil is growing
Thus, the study analyzed the main sponsorships of 234 first division teams, from 12 different countries, including Brazil, Germany, Spain, Italy, Argentina and others. Sponsorships were categorized into different segments, such as online betting, financial institutions, technology companies, among others.
Global results
- Three in every ten main sponsors in world football are from online betting companies, totaling 64 different sponsorships.
- The second most present segment on team shirts is financial institutions, with 35 sponsorships.
- In third place are telecommunications companies, with 11 different sponsorships.
- The “Others” segment includes chemical industries, civil construction, equipment industries, services and companies in the retail sector, totaling 74 sponsorships.
Online betting sponsorships by country
- In nine of the 12 countries analyzed, there is sponsorship from betting sites.
- In six of these countries, betting sponsorships are the most numerous in the national league, including Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, and others.
- Brazil stands out, being the country with the largest number of sponsorships from online betting sites, with 15 sponsorships, which represents 80% of first division clubs.
Online betting sponsorships in Brazil
- Vasco became the 15th first division team to have an online betting site as a master sponsor.
- Only five Serie A teams have a main sponsor other than a bookmaker.
- Different online betting sites are responsible for sponsoring bets in Brazilian football.
