São Paulo Futebol Clube is preparing an unusual move for the long-awaited Brazilian Super Cup, scheduled for February 4th. In the match against Palmeiras, in Belo Horizonte, the club will use the brand of its former sponsor, Sportsbet.io.

The former sponsor will be featured as the protagonist in the main space of the uniform.

Breaking the contract with Sportsbet.io was not simple

In the strategic game of contracts, the current sponsor, Superbet, entered the field and closed an agreement to stamp its name on the team’s sleeves.

Initially, Anota Tricolores published the understanding of this understanding, and later, the GE portal confirmed this analysis.

Therefore, the triple agreement between São Paulo, Sportsbet.io and Superbet dates back to the end of last year, when the club opted for a new partnership.

Superbet presented a more attractive proposal, surprising Sportsbet.io, which had a one-year contract, leading the club to break the old partnership.

Thus, the previous contract established that São Paulo must notify Sportsbet.io 60 days in advance in the event of termination.

Faced with the impossibility of meeting the deadline, a unique agreement was reached: the brand would return to the uniform only in the Super Cup, as compensation. Superbet has accepted the terms of this transaction.

New sponsor accepts terms of breach of contract

Superbet, victorious in the dispute, offered a significant amount of approximately R$52 million per year to São Paulo, signed for a three-year contract.

In this way, this amount more than doubles the approximately R$25 million per year that Sportsbet.io paid to the São Paulo club.

In any case, the value of the fine that the club will pay for changing sponsors will be included in this difference.

Brazilian Super Cup between Palmeiras x São Paulo

The Brazilian Super Cup will take place at the Mineirão stadium, this Sunday, 4th, at 4pm. Therefore, this clash marks the opening of the Brazilian calendar in a game between the Brazilian champion (Palmeiras) and the winner of the Copa do Brasil (São Paulo).
